Challenge

How might we transform the existing API marketplace into a modular, intuitive and engaging platform, and build awareness internally of its value to drive cultural change and engagement towards the platform?

Insights

  • Lack of visibility of existing APIs is causing internal teams to repeat efforts affecting time and productivity. 

  • The existing platform has a clunky and confusing user experience, making it difficult for users to find the right APIs for consumption. 

  • The existing platform is unable to procure right APIs for the users, due to inaccurate documentation and tagging while onboarding APIs.  

  • Lack of awareness and engagement with the current platform internally causing reduced interaction and API contribution

Approach

  • Facilitating in-depth interviews with the previous team to understand the technical and business requirements. 

  • Document the requirements in detail to enable smooth knowledge transfer for the new team.

  • Qualitative Interviews with the stakeholder to understand the user needs, goals and frustrations .

  • As-is design blueprint to map the existing user journey and identify the insights.

  • Collaboration with the client teams to identify areas of business value creation and technological interventions and develop a design strategy for effective updation of the platform into a modular API platform. 

Deliverables

  • ​Business requirements documented on the ADO board for effective project management 

  • Developed an implementation roadmap

  • Delivered design artefacts like user research insights, as-is blueprints, personas and pain point tracker.

  • User journey map and service blueprint that define the future solution and next steps of execution.

Solution

  • Modular digital marketplace for existing APIs where developers are able to onboard, discover, contribute and consume APIs and other digital assets. 

  • An engaging User Feedback system to understand user needs and make consistent updates.

  • Standardised communication assets (visual branding, audio/video content, emailers) to be shared with the developer community and create a recognisable brand. 

  • An efficient system for onboarding and  so that developers are able to contribute APIs onto the platform in less than 15 mins.

  • The user experience will also enable stakeholders to quickly discover required APIs and consume them to enhance their products thus reducing repetitive development efforts by teams and increasing productivity 

  • Guided documentation process to help developers describe the APIs accurately thus enabling quick discovery.

  • Increasing engagement with the wider bp community through events, training and broadcast updates.
